Effects of Lactobacillus reuteri lozenges (Prodentis) as adjunctive therapeutic agent in non-surgical therapy of periodontitis

Background/Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Lactobacillus reuteri lozenges as an adjunctive therapeutic agent in combination with scaling and root planning a randomized, clinical trial volunteers periodontitis stage IV. Material Methods: The included 40 patients diagnosed divided into 2 groups 20 by random sample method. first group used after nonsurgical periodontal therapy for period days while second was treated non-surgical without lozenges. Periodontal parameters were registered all before treatment days. Samples saliva from analyzed PCR method pathogens Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia. Assessments made on day 0 both Results: actinomycetemcomitans gingivalis show statistically significant difference between two groups. Results not intermedia (P= 0.5598). Conclusions: present confirms positive L. maintenance phase treatment. Considering beneficial probiotics, could serve useful adjunct or maybe even alternative when might be contraindicated has postponed.
